What the fare covers
- The whole vehicle, not a seat. Four people in an MPV from £211 works out at about £53 each from London City.
- Cruise luggage. A saloon takes up to 4 people with 2 large cases. An MPV takes up to 6 people with 4 cases, which is the safer choice if anyone is carrying formal wear.
- Flight tracking. Your driver plans around the time you actually land, so an early or late arrival needs no phone call.
- A licensed driver who meets you at arrivals and drops you at your ship's dock gate, not at the port entrance.
- Fuel, tolls and waiting time. The fixed fare is confirmed before you pay, by card or to the driver.
Returns booked at the same time are quoted at 1.8× the single fare. Get London Transfer Ltd holds Transport for London private hire operator licence 11588.
Stansted, Luton and London City arrivals for winter cruises
Landing at Stansted, Luton or London City means the longest airport run we do to Southampton, and in winter it is the M25 that needs watching. Fog collects in the river valleys on cold, still mornings, the orbital slows sharply in poor visibility, and with short daylight you may well set off in the dark. None of that changes the fare, which is agreed per vehicle in advance, but it does shape how much time we suggest leaving between landing and check-in.
Budget flights from Europe into Stansted and Luton are a popular way to reach a festive itinerary, and most Christmas sailings leave Southampton from 19 to 22 December 2026. London City tends to suit people flying in from business destinations who want to start their holiday straight from the airport. Whichever you use, we follow your flight and reset the pickup if a winter storm or a de-icing queue keeps you on the ground.
For a sailing on Christmas Day, such as MSC Preziosa, an early landing at one of these airports is still workable by road even though there is little or no rail service that day. Roads are usually quieter on Christmas morning, which helps, but the distance is the same, so we would still want a comfortable gap between touchdown and check-in. If the flight times are tight, a hotel near the airport the night before is the calmer option.
- Flight-tracked pickup at all three airports, adjusted for winter delays
- Longer M25 drive planned with fog and darkness in mind
- Saloon or MPV sized to your luggage, with heavy winter cases included in the fare
- Straight to the correct dock gate for your terminal, with no changes on the way
The same airports serve plenty of year-round trips too, such as Stansted to Cambridge and Luton Airport to Oxford.
Questions
How much is a transfer from Stansted to Southampton cruise terminal?
From £213 in a saloon and £228 in an MPV, one way per vehicle. It's about 126–130 miles.
How much is Luton Airport to Southampton cruise port?
From £204 in a saloon and £219 in an MPV, one way per vehicle.
How much is London City Airport to Southampton?
From £196 in a saloon and £211 in an MPV. The fare includes the booking engine's east London surcharge.
Where does the driver meet us at Luton, Stansted or London City?
At arrivals. Your licensed driver meets you at arrivals or at your door, helps with the cruise cases and takes you to your ship's dock gate rather than the port entrance.
Is the price per person or per vehicle?
Per vehicle, one way, with luggage included. Four people in an MPV from £211 works out at about £53 each. Returns booked at the same time are quoted at 1.8× the single fare.
How many people and cases fit in each vehicle?
A saloon takes up to 4 people with 2 large cases. An MPV takes up to 6 people with 4 cases. Cruise suitcases are usually large, so for 2–3 people with big cases, or anyone carrying formal wear bags, the MPV is the safer choice.
Which dock gate will we be dropped at?
Ocean Cruise Terminal (berth 46) and QEII Cruise Terminal (berths 38–39) are in the Eastern Docks, reached through Dock Gate 4 off Canute Road. City, Horizon and Mayflower are in the Western Docks, a few minutes further along the waterfront. Tell us the ship and we take you to the right one.
Is a transfer cheaper than parking at the port?
Not usually, if you own a car. Seven nights at the terminal car parks runs about £140–£160, and off-site parking with a shuttle about £65–£95, against roughly £337 for a return transfer from Luton, Stansted or London City. The transfer wins when you are flying in, when the car is needed at home, or when you would rather not drive on embarkation morning.
Can we pay the driver instead of paying by card?
Yes. The fixed fare for your journey is shown before you pay, and you can pay by card or choose to pay the driver.
Is it realistic to fly into Stansted, Luton or London City on the morning of a December sailing?
It can work, but it needs a generous margin. The drive is long, the M25 is prone to fog in winter, and festive departure days are busy at the docks. For the 19 to 22 December 2026 sailings we would usually recommend an early flight or arriving the day before, then collecting you from a nearby hotel.
How do you keep track of a late winter flight into one of these airports?
Your driver monitors the flight itself, so a later landing because of ice, fog or a storm elsewhere moves the pickup without you having to ring us. On a long run like this, we will also flag early if the new arrival time puts your check-in at risk, so you can decide on the next step.
