Surrey to Southampton cruise terminal transfers

Most of Surrey is within an hour or so of the Port of Southampton, which makes a door-to-ship car the obvious way to start a cruise. We collect from any address in the county and drive you to your terminal's set-down area. Fares start at £91 per car from Farnham and £128 from Guildford, with luggage included.

One-way guide fares per vehicle to the Ocean Cruise Terminal for a weekday daytime journey, luggage included. Fares to the QEII, City, Horizon and Mayflower terminals are within a few pounds. Fridays, weekend mornings and peak hours carry a supplement; the booking page prices your exact address and shows the fixed fare before you pay. The drive times are without traffic, so allow extra on weekday mornings.

Routes from Surrey to Southampton
Surrey splits roughly into three when it comes to the drive to the port:
- West Surrey (Farnham, Camberley, Frimley): onto the M3 at junction 4 or across on the A31 through Alton to Winchester, about an hour to the port.
- Guildford, Woking and Elmbridge (Weybridge, Cobham, Esher, Walton): the A3 or local roads to the M25 and the M3, or the A31 over the Hog's Back from Guildford. Around 1 hour 15 to 1 hour 30.
- East Surrey (Epsom, Dorking, Reigate, Leatherhead, Oxted): the M25 west to the M3, about 1 hour 40 minutes in normal traffic. The M25 between the M23 and the M3 is the main pinch point on weekday mornings.
The driver follows live traffic on the day. The fixed fare does not change with the route.
When to leave home
Each cabin gets a check-in slot, normally between late morning and mid-afternoon, and it is best to arrive early in yours. As a rule of thumb from Surrey:
| Where you live | Leave before your slot starts |
|---|---|
| Farnham, Camberley, Frimley | 1 hour 15 minutes |
| Guildford, Woking, Weybridge, Cobham | 1 hour 45 minutes |
| Esher, Epsom, Dorking, Reigate | 2 hours |
On a summer Saturday, when several ships turn round on the same day and holiday traffic is on the M3, add 15 minutes. See our embarkation day guide for what happens when you reach the terminal.
Car, train or driving yourself?
Driving and parking at the port costs a daily rate for the length of the cruise, which adds up on a two-week trip, and someone still has to drive home tired on disembarkation day. Our cruise parking guide lists the options and prices.
The train works well from Woking, which has direct fast trains to Southampton Central in under an hour, and from Guildford with a change. It is cheapest for one or two people with light luggage; you still need a taxi from the station to the terminal.
A private car is the simplest with cruise luggage: loaded at your door, unloaded by the porters at the terminal. From Guildford, four people sharing an MPV pay about £36 each.
After the cruise
On the way home the driver tracks the ship, waits at your terminal while you disembark and drives you back to your door. From most of Surrey you are home before lunch.
Surrey to Southampton cruise terminals in winter: the Hog's Back, the Surrey Hills and festive dates
From Farnham and Guildford the run to the ship is about an hour, which makes Surrey one of the easiest counties for a winter cruise. The open stretches can still catch you out: the A31 over the Hog's Back is exposed to fog and frost, and lanes in the Surrey Hills around Dorking, Shere and Haslemere stay icy in the shade well into the morning. Your driver chooses between the A31, A3 and M3 on the day and leaves extra time on frosty starts.
Christmas sailings mostly leave Southampton between 19 and 22 December, and MSC Preziosa departs on Christmas Day. From many Surrey towns the train involves a change, and over the holidays engineering works and replacement buses are common, with little or no rail service on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. A car from home, with luggage included at a fixed per-vehicle fare, is simpler for families travelling with heavy winter cases and a bag of presents.
For the return leg, the driver keeps an eye on your ship. Vessels are usually alongside by about 06:00, but a stormy night at sea can delay arrival or change the berth time, and the pickup moves with it. With only around an hour's drive after a normal docking, you can often be back in Surrey before most commuters have reached their desks, with the rest of the day to unpack.
- Route picked on the morning: A31, A3 or M3 depending on fog and frost
- Extra time for icy lanes in the Surrey Hills
- Ship tracked on return so a late docking does not leave you waiting
- MPV for up to six and four large cases on festive family cruises
For winter flights, our Gatwick executive transfer and Farnborough private jet chauffeur both serve airports close to home for Surrey travellers.
Questions
How much is a cruise transfer from Guildford to Southampton?
From £128 for a saloon (up to 4 people, 2 large cases) and £144 for an MPV (up to 6 people, 4 cases), per vehicle, one way.
How long is the drive from Surrey to Southampton cruise terminal?
From Farnham or Camberley about an hour; from Guildford, Woking or Weybridge about 1 hour 20 minutes; from Epsom, Dorking or Reigate about 1 hour 40 minutes, longer at peak times.
Do you cover the whole of Surrey?
Yes, every town and village in the county, including the Surrey Hills, Elmbridge and the towns along the M25. The table shows guide fares for the larger towns; the booking page prices your exact address.
Is the train from Surrey to Southampton a good alternative?
From Woking there are direct fast trains to Southampton Central in under an hour, which suit light travellers. You still need a taxi from the station to the ship, and with cruise luggage most people find the car easier.
Can you pick us up from home and bring us back after the cruise?
Yes. The driver tracks your ship on the way home and waits while you disembark. Book both legs together and the pair costs 1.9 times the single fare.
Do you take Surrey passengers to Christmas, New Year and repositioning cruises?
Yes. We collect across Surrey for the festive departures from 19 to 22 December, Christmas Day sailings such as MSC Preziosa, and autumn repositioning voyages like Celebrity Apex's transatlantic crossing on 18 October. Short drive times mean you can leave later than passengers from further afield, though we still allow for winter weather.
How does the driver know if our ship will be late back in bad weather?
The driver follows the ship's live position and expected berthing time from the evening before, not just the scheduled arrival. If a storm holds the vessel offshore, the pickup moves to match. When you have cleared the terminal, a quick call brings the car round for the short run back to Surrey.
