Eastern Docks or Western Docks?
The Eastern Docks (Dock Gate 4, off Canute Road and Platform Road) serve the Ocean and QEII terminals. The Western Docks serve the City and Horizon terminals through Dock Gate 10 and the Mayflower terminal through Dock Gate 20, all off the West Quay Road / Herbert Walker Avenue side. The Eastern and Western Docks are about 10 minutes apart by road on a sailing day. If your e-ticket says Berth 106, that is the Mayflower terminal at Dock Gate 20, not the Ocean terminal.
Parking at the terminal
Your cruise line decides which official operator you use. CPS (Cruise & Passenger Services) handles P&O, Cunard and Princess, and ABParking handles most other lines. Our Southampton cruise parking guide compares CPS, ABP and off-site options with prices.
Door to door from London instead
A fixed-fare transfer from Woodford, Chigwell, Loughton or anywhere in London drops you at the right dock gate and terminal door. Your driver also tracks the ship on the way back. See Southampton cruise terminals, London to Southampton cruise terminal and cruise line transfers.
Using the terminal postcodes on a dark winter morning
A postcode gets you to the right part of the port, but on a December embarkation or a 06:00 return it is the dock gate that counts. The Eastern Docks terminals, Ocean at Berth 46/47 and QEII at Berth 38/39, both use Dock Gate 4. City at Berth 101 and Horizon at Berth 102 share Dock Gate 10, while Mayflower at Berth 106 is reached through Dock Gate 20. In the dark, with rain on the windscreen, those signs are easy to miss.
That is why our drivers work from berth and gate rather than satnav alone. A cruise line's terminal can vary from one sailing to the next, including on winter sailings and repositioning voyages, so always take the terminal from your own boarding documents and pass it on when you book. We plan the approach, allow extra time for frost or fog, and stop at the correct entrance.
- Drivers navigate by berth and dock gate, not postcode alone
- Extra time built in for fog on the M3 and M27
- Kerbside drop-off at the terminal, so no cold walk from a car park
- Ship-arrival tracking on collection mornings

Is the terminal postcode the same for winter and repositioning sailings?
The postcodes themselves never change, but the terminal your ship uses can. Lines are allocated berths sailing by sailing, so a ship you joined at one terminal in summer could use another in winter. Check the terminal printed on your boarding documents, tell us when you book, and the driver will head for the right dock gate.
How do you handle a winter collection if our ship berths later than expected?
We track the ship on the morning it is due back. Most returning cruises berth by roughly 06:00, though storms can delay that by several hours. When that happens the driver simply sets off later, so there is no extra arrangement for you to make and no one waiting on an exposed quay.
