Canary Wharf to Southampton cruise terminal

Canary Wharf is about as far east in London as you can start a Southampton cruise, so the drive takes planning. A private car collects you from your apartment, office or hotel anywhere in Docklands and takes the quickest route on the day, round the M25 or across town: around 118–119 miles by the usual route, from £221 per car.
Transfer logistics from Canary Wharf (E14)
Leaving London's financial district at Canary Wharf means getting out of East London before the long run south-west. Depending on traffic, drivers either head west through central London towards the M3, or take the Limehouse Link and A13 out to the M25 and go round the southern half of the orbital to the M3.
Key East London pinch points
- Blackwall and Rotherhithe tunnel approaches: These river crossings can see sudden, heavy delays during the morning rush.
- The Dartford Crossing (M25 Junction 30/1a): Going south via the M25 means crossing the QEII Bridge. We check freight queues and closures before you set off and build a buffer into your departure time.
Collections at Canary Wharf
For pickups from offices, residential towers or hotels such as the Marriott Canary Wharf, your chauffeur positions the car at the agreed pickup point about 15 minutes before your time slot, meets you in the lobby and handles your luggage, so you can keep working on the way to the Southampton docks.

Guide fares per vehicle, one way, from Canary Wharf (E14) for a weekday daytime trip, luggage included. Wapping, Limehouse, the Isle of Dogs, the Greenwich Peninsula and the Royal Docks are priced at a similar level. Fridays, weekend mornings and peak hours carry a supplement and the exact fixed fare shows before you pay. A return booked together costs 1.9 times the single fare.
Round the M25 or straight through London?
From the Isle of Dogs there are two realistic ways to the M3, and the right one depends on the day:
- Round the M25 via the Blackwall Tunnel or the A13, then the M25 to the M3. It is the longer route, about 118–119 miles, but it keeps you on fast roads and is the more predictable choice on a weekday morning.
- Through London along the Highway, the Embankment and out through west London to the M3. It is about 85 miles and can be quicker on a quiet Sunday, but the central London traffic makes it a gamble at rush hour.
Drivers check live traffic before setting off and choose then. The fare is fixed when you book, so the route makes no difference to what you pay.
Pick-up times from Docklands
| Your check-in slot | Weekday pick-up | Saturday or Sunday pick-up |
|---|---|---|
| 11:00–12:00 | 08:00 | 08:30 |
| 12:00–13:00 | 09:00 | 09:15 |
| 13:00–14:00 | 10:00 | 10:15 |
| 14:00–15:00 | 11:00 | 11:15 |
These allow about 2 hours 30 minutes on a weekday and a little less at weekends, getting you to the port early in your slot. If you are flying into London City Airport to join the ship, see our London City Airport page for the airport-to-ship timings.
Pick-ups on the Canary Wharf estate
The Canary Wharf estate has its own road layout, private roads and building set-down areas. Tell us the building name or street address and which entrance you will come out of, and the driver will meet you there. For residential towers with a concierge, we can call the desk when we arrive. With a lot of luggage, ask the building whether you can bring the cases down to the set-down area before the car arrives; it saves time on a busy morning.
After the cruise: back to Docklands
On the way home the driver tracks the ship, waits at your terminal and drives you back to E14 or wherever you need to be, with the same route choice made on the day. Expect to be home around midday to early afternoon, depending on when you leave the ship.
From Canary Wharf to a winter sailing: across town or round the M25
Canary Wharf sits at the far eastern edge of our usual London pickups, around 118 miles from the docks, and the choice between cutting across central London or going round the M25 matters more in winter. In the weeks before Christmas, traffic through the centre is heavier with shoppers and festive events, while fog can slow the M25 on still mornings. Your driver checks conditions on the day and picks the better option, rather than following a fixed route that made sense in July.
Many Docklands passengers leave for a festive cruise straight after the last day in the office. Christmas sailings are mostly on the Saturday to Tuesday from 19 December, so a pickup from your building on a Friday evening, a night in a Southampton hotel and a short hop to the ship in the morning works well. Travelling the same morning is also fine with an early start. On the way back, we track the ship's arrival so the driver is there when you come off, even if the weather has held it up.
- Route chosen on the day between central London and the M25.
- Pickup from your office building, with cases already loaded.
- No Jubilee line and Waterloo change with heavy winter luggage.
- Ship tracked on the way home if winter weather delays docking.
For winter work travel, our Canary Wharf chauffeur service covers meetings and airport runs, and the ExCeL London event chauffeur handles exhibitions just across the water.
Questions
How much is Canary Wharf to Southampton cruise terminal by car?
From £221 for a saloon (up to 4 people, 2 large cases) and £236 for an MPV (up to 6 people, 4 cases), per vehicle, one way, including luggage.
How long does the drive from Canary Wharf to Southampton take?
Allow 2 hours 30 minutes on a weekday and about 2 hours 15 minutes at a weekend. The usual route round the M25 is about 118–119 miles; through central London it is shorter but often slower.
What time should we leave Canary Wharf for our cruise?
For a check-in slot between 12:00 and 13:00, a pick-up at about 09:00 on a weekday is comfortable. Add 15 minutes if you are travelling on a Friday or in school-holiday traffic.
Can you collect from a Canary Wharf office building?
Yes. Give us the building and the entrance you will use. Many towers have a set-down area or a concierge who can direct the driver.
Do you also cover Greenwich and the Royal Docks?
Yes. We collect from anywhere in Tower Hamlets, Greenwich and Newham, including the Royal Docks and the Greenwich Peninsula, at similar fares.
Can you take us from Canary Wharf to a festive sailing just before Christmas?
Yes. We collect from homes, hotels and office buildings across Canary Wharf and the wider Docklands for festive sailings, most of which leave between 19 and 22 December. Price is per car, fixed in advance, and covers all your bags. In winter we allow extra time for December traffic and choose the route on the day.
If a winter storm delays our ship, how do you time the drive back to Docklands?
We track the ship's actual docking time, so if bad weather holds it up or moves the berth slot, the pickup changes to match. The driver meets you outside the terminal once you have your luggage and then decides whether the M25 or the route through central London will get you home faster.
