A City-to-City Run That Becomes Part of Your Working Day

FromCentral London (W1, SW1, EC2, E14 and all London postcodes)
ToManchester city centre, Salford Quays & Cheshire
Distanceapprox. 200–210 miles
Typical drive4 hr – 4 hr 30 min
Peak / winter5 hr – 5 hr 45 min+ (Friday afternoons, M6 J10–J4 around Birmingham, bank holiday weekends)
Main roadsA406/A41 → M1 → M6 (J19 Catthorpe) → M6 Toll (optional) → M6 J19 Knutsford → A556 → M56 → A5103 into Manchester

Manchester is far enough from London that the journey is something to plan around, but close enough to do in a day. By road it is roughly 200 miles: out of London on the A406 or A41 to join the M1, north to Catthorpe, then the M6 past Birmingham, Stoke and Knutsford before the A556 and M56 bring you into the city. For a meeting in Spinningfields, a production at MediaCityUK in Salford or a site visit in Trafford Park, the car takes you straight there rather than to Piccadilly station.

The practical difference is privacy and continuity. Four hours in a Mercedes S-Class or V-Class is four hours you can use: drafting, reading a board pack or taking calls that you would not take in a train carriage. Your chauffeur decides between the M6 and the M6 Toll around Birmingham depending on live traffic, and we can plan a short stop at Watford Gap, Norton Canes or Keele services if you want to stretch your legs. Teams can travel together in the V-Class and talk through the meeting on the way.

Woodford is based in Hampshire but runs long-distance work nationally. For London–Manchester bookings your chauffeur is positioned in London the night before or early in the morning, so collection is on time even for a 5am start. Quotes are fixed and include fuel, tolls, the congestion charge, ULEZ and VAT. Your chauffeur is licensed and DBS-checked, follows rest-break rules on long drives, and for wait-and-return days we plan the schedule so the return journey is safe and properly rested.

Who we drive

Built Around Who's Travelling

Corporate Executives

Directors with teams split between London and Manchester use this route to visit Spinningfields, Piccadilly or Salford Quays without losing the day. Leave London at 6am, arrive for a late-morning meeting having worked the whole way, and be home that evening. With an S-Class you can take a confidential call in the back of the car, which you cannot do in a train carriage.

VIP Travellers

Artists, presenters and guests travelling to studios at MediaCityUK, concerts at Co-op Live or hospitality at Old Trafford need to arrive discreetly and on time. Your chauffeur uses the right entrance and drop-off point, keeps the car close by and is ready to leave when you are, avoiding the crowds at Piccadilly or Victoria stations after a show.

Families with Heavy Luggage

Families moving a student into the University of Manchester or heading north for a wedding in Cheshire often have more luggage than the train can comfortably take. The V-Class seats up to seven with six to seven large cases, child seats are available on request, and comfort stops can be planned for younger passengers.

International Visitors

Overseas guests who have spent time in London and are heading north to Manchester, Liverpool or the Lake District avoid dealing with crowded London stations, changing platforms and luggage limits. Your chauffeur collects from your London hotel, explains the route, and delivers you to your Manchester hotel, ready to continue further north if you want.

On this routeDirect and door to door with one professional chauffeurMost London minicab firms will not take on a 200-mile one-way run, and those that do rarely provide a vehicle or driver suited to four hours on the motorway.Direct trains run from London Euston to Manchester Piccadilly, but you still have to get across London to Euston with your luggage, cope with crowded peak services and disruption, and find onward transport from Piccadilly to Salford Quays, Trafford or Cheshire.

FAQs

Questions Before You Book

What happens if there are long delays on the M6 or M1?

Your chauffeur monitors live traffic throughout the journey and will switch to the M6 Toll, or another route, if there is a serious hold-up. If arrival time is critical, we build a buffer into your departure time at the booking stage. At pickup, a free waiting allowance is included so a slow exit from your building is not a problem.

Can I book a very early or late-night journey to Manchester?

Yes. A 5am departure from London is common for clients who need to be in Manchester by mid-morning, and late returns after an evening match or concert are also common. Every fare is fixed before you book: early-morning and late-night journeys have no meter, and any peak-time or holiday surcharge is shown on the booking page before you pay. Your chauffeur will be properly rested before the drive, which is especially important on long night journeys.

How much luggage can I take?

The E-Class and S-Class take up to three passengers and two large cases each. If you are travelling as a group, bringing equipment for a shoot at MediaCityUK or moving a student into halls, the V-Class takes up to seven passengers with six to seven large cases. Tell us about any unusual items, such as camera cases or golf bags, when you book.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before your pickup. For long-distance trips like London to Manchester, your chauffeur may already be on the way to London, so please let us know about any changes as soon as possible on 020 8888 9988. We would rather re-time a journey than cancel it.

Will we stop on the way?

That is up to you. Many clients travel straight through, while others prefer a short break at Watford Gap, Norton Canes on the M6 Toll or Keele services. On longer days or wait-and-return trips, your chauffeur will also take any rest breaks needed to drive safely, and we plan these into the schedule in advance.

Can you do a same-day return from Manchester?

Yes, but it is a long day. Around eight to nine hours of driving plus your meeting time means we plan it carefully, sometimes with a second chauffeur or an overnight stay for longer meetings. Tell us your schedule when you book and we will recommend the safest and most efficient option.

Do you only operate from London, given you're based in Hampshire?

No. Although Woodford is based in Southampton, we operate long-distance work across England. For London to Manchester trips, your chauffeur is positioned in London before your pickup, so you get the same punctual service whether your journey starts in Hampshire, Mayfair or Canary Wharf.

Can you drop us at MediaCityUK or Old Trafford rather than the city centre?

Yes. We drop off wherever you need to be, including MediaCityUK, Trafford Park, Old Trafford, the Etihad Campus, Manchester Airport or an address in Wilmslow, Alderley Edge or Hale. On match and event days, we agree a drop-off and pick-up point that avoids road closures and the crowds.

Ready When You Are
