The M40 Corridor for Business: London to the Second City

FromCentral London (City, West End, Canary Wharf, Paddington)
ToBirmingham city centre, Edgbaston & Solihull
Distanceapprox. 120 miles
Typical drive2 hr 15 min – 2 hr 45 min
Peak / winter3 hr – 3 hr 30 min+ (A40 Hanger Lane in the morning, M42 J3a–J6 in the evening peak, Friday afternoons)
Main roadsA40 (Westway) → M40 → M42 (J3a) → A34/A41 into Birmingham city centre; M42 J6 for Solihull, the NEC and Birmingham Business Park

Birmingham is one of the most important business centres outside London, and much of the corporate travel between the two is day trips: a client meeting on Colmore Row, a site visit at Jaguar Land Rover in Solihull, a session at the ICC or a board meeting at a firm in Brindleyplace. By car it is about 120 miles, mostly on the M40 through the Chilterns and past Oxford and Banbury, joining the M42 at Junction 3a. Your chauffeur then chooses the A34, A41 or A45 approach depending on which side of the city you need.

For corporate travel, the main advantage is team time. Four colleagues in a V-Class can review the pitch together, take a call on speaker and arrive at the same door at the same time, with no split taxis or missed connections at either end. Directors travelling alone use the S-Class as a mobile office. Because the M40 is quieter than the M1 or M6, the journey is calm and predictable, so laptop work and reading are comfortable.

We work on fixed quotes that include fuel, the congestion charge, ULEZ, any tolls and VAT, and we can set up account billing with consolidated invoicing, cost-centre references and booker notifications for regular corporate clients. Chauffeurs are licensed, DBS-checked and briefed on confidentiality. Although Woodford is based in Hampshire, we run this route regularly, with your chauffeur positioned in London before collection so early starts from Canary Wharf, the City or the West End are fully reliable.

Who we drive

Built Around Who's Travelling

Corporate Executives

Professional services firms, banks and HR teams with Birmingham offices use this route for client meetings, regional board meetings and recruitment days in the Colmore Business District and Brindleyplace. A wait-and-return booking means the director is collected from the office in London, worked productively both ways and is home for the evening, without a single taxi queue at Euston or New Street.

VIP Travellers

Guests travelling to Symphony Hall, Edgbaston or the Birmingham Rep, or staying at Hampton Manor, expect to arrive without fuss. Your chauffeur drops off at the stage door or a private entrance where possible, waits nearby and is ready to leave as soon as the event finishes, avoiding the crowds at Broad Street and New Street.

Families with Heavy Luggage

Families moving students into the University of Birmingham at Edgbaston or Aston University, or visiting relatives in Solihull and Sutton Coldfield, often have too many bags for the train. The V-Class carries up to seven passengers with six to seven large cases, with child seats on request, so the whole family and the luggage travel together.

International Visitors

Overseas business visitors and buyers who have landed in London and are heading to meetings or trade shows in Birmingham avoid the complications of London's rail network with luggage. Your chauffeur collects from your London hotel and delivers you to your Birmingham hotel or venue, and can continue on to the NEC, Warwick or Stratford-upon-Avon.

On this routeDirect and door to door with one professional chauffeurA London minicab on a one-way trip to Birmingham is rarely suited to a corporate client, and booking separate taxis for every person in a team quickly becomes expensive and difficult to coordinate.Direct trains run from London Euston to Birmingham New Street and from Marylebone to Moor Street and Snow Hill, but you still need to cross London to the station and take taxis at the Birmingham end, and with HS2 construction, engineering works and weekend replacement buses, the service is disrupted fairly often.

FAQs

Questions Before You Book

What if the M40 or M42 is delayed?

Your chauffeur monitors live traffic throughout and will take an alternative such as the M1/M6 or a different approach into Birmingham if there is a serious delay. We agree a buffer for time-critical meetings when you book. If your previous meeting overruns at collection, a free waiting allowance is included before waiting charges apply.

Can you set up a corporate account?

Yes. Regular corporate clients can have an account with consolidated invoicing, purchase order or cost-centre references on each booking, and confirmation emails sent to the booker and the traveller. Quotes stay fixed and all-inclusive, which makes approval and budgeting straightforward.

Do you cover early-morning starts and late returns?

Yes. Early departures from London for a 9am meeting in Birmingham are among our most common bookings on this route, as are late returns after dinners and events. Every fare is fixed before you book: early-morning and late-night journeys have no meter, and any peak-time or holiday surcharge is shown on the booking page before you pay. Chauffeurs plan their rest so that early and late journeys are always safe.

How much luggage and equipment can we bring?

The E-Class and S-Class take up to three passengers with two large cases each. For teams carrying presentation kit, sample cases or display material, the V-Class takes up to seven passengers with six to seven large cases. Let us know about anything bulky when you book so we can confirm it fits.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before your pickup. Corporate plans change often, so if a meeting is moved rather than cancelled, call 020 8888 9988 and we will do our best to re-time the booking rather than cancel it. Every amendment, including new pickup times and extra passengers, is confirmed in writing to both the booker and the traveller.

How early should we leave London for a 10am meeting on Colmore Row?

From the City or West End, a departure of around 7am is usually enough for a 10am meeting in central Birmingham, allowing for the A40 and the M42 morning traffic. From Canary Wharf, allow a little more. In winter or on NEC exhibition days we may suggest leaving fifteen to twenty minutes earlier.

Can one chauffeur handle several meetings around Birmingham?

Yes. Many corporate bookings are full days: a meeting in the Colmore Business District, lunch in Brindleyplace, a site visit in Solihull or at Birmingham Business Park, then the return to London. Your chauffeur stays with you throughout, and we price the whole day as a single fixed quote.

Can you also take us on to the NEC or Birmingham Airport?

Yes. The NEC and Birmingham Airport are both close to M42 J6, so they are easy to add to a London to Birmingham booking, either as the main destination or as an extra stop. For exhibition days, we agree the right drop-off area at the NEC in advance.
