A Short Transfer That Has to Run on Time
Stansted is Cambridge's nearest major international airport, and the run north is short: roughly half an hour of M11 from Junction 8 to the edge of the city. That brevity is exactly why it goes wrong when left to chance. A late rank queue, a minicab driver who does not know the difference between Cambridge North and Cambridge station, or a car that cannot get through the city's bus gates can double the journey. Woodford plans the transfer around your actual destination, not just the CB postcode, so the last mile is as considered as the motorway.
Much of Cambridge's business traffic never touches the historic centre. The Biomedical Campus sits off the southern edge by Addenbrooke's, Granta Park and the Babraham Research Campus lie east of the M11 near Junctions 9 and 10, the Wellcome Genome Campus is at Hinxton, and the Science Park and St John's Innovation Centre cluster by the A14 at Milton. We route to each directly, often leaving the M11 earlier than a sat-nav would, and we know which entrances, visitor barriers and reception buildings to use.
For visiting investors, scientists and academic guests, the car doubles as a quiet first meeting room. Collaborators can be collected together from one flight, dropped at separate campuses, and picked up again for a college dinner or an evening return to Stansted. Because your quote is fixed and covers the Stansted set-down and car park charges, VAT and any waiting agreed in advance, there is no running meter to explain to finance and no surprise when a lab tour overruns.

Premium Amenities & On-Board Experience
Specific to this journey
- Meet and greet in the single Stansted terminal arrivals hall, with your chauffeur holding a name board and tracking your flight from departure.
- Wi-Fi, phone chargers and bottled water as standard, so you can send the pre-read or join a call on the half-hour drive.

Built Around Who's Travelling
Corporate Executives
Life sciences and tech leaders flying into Stansted for a board meeting at the Science Park or a site visit to the Biomedical Campus. Your chauffeur meets you in arrivals, takes the M11 to the right junction for your building and waits or returns for the evening flight. One fixed quote covers the day, so the itinerary can flex around overrunning meetings without a meter running.
VIP Travellers
Visiting dignitaries, benefactors and guest speakers arriving for college events or university lectures. An S-Class collects discreetly from arrivals and delivers you to the porters' lodge or a hotel such as the University Arms, with the chauffeur briefed on access restrictions around the historic centre. Evening collection after a formal hall dinner can be arranged in advance.
Families with Heavy Luggage
Families arriving for the start of term, a graduation or a long stay. A V-Class swallows suitcases, trunks and a bike box without anyone balancing a case on their lap, and the chauffeur helps carry everything to the college or rented home. Child seats are fitted on request, and a stop for essentials on the way is easily arranged.
International Visitors
First-time visitors to the UK landing at Stansted after a long-haul connection. Rather than navigating a train to Cambridge station and a taxi across town, you are met by name, helped with bags and driven straight to your hotel or research campus. Your chauffeur can point out the colleges, the Backs and the best route for the morning walk to your meeting.
Woodford Chauffeur Cars vs Taxis vs UK Rail
| Woodford Chauffeur Cars | Standard taxi / minicab | UK rail | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price certainty | Fixed quote: fuel, tolls, congestion charge/ULEZ, parking and VAT included | Metered or surge-priced; extras often added | Advance fares vary; walk-up and peak fares are high |
| Door to door | Yes: from your address to the exact terminal, entrance or lobby | Usually, but few local firms cover long distances well | No: station transfers at both ends |
| Luggage | Carried for you; the V-Class takes 6–7 large cases | Limited boot space in a standard saloon | You carry it, including on stairs and changes |
| Vehicle | Mercedes-Benz E-Class, S-Class and V-Class | Varies widely | Shared carriage; a seat isn't always guaranteed |
| Driver vetting | Licensed, DBS-checked professional chauffeurs | Licensed, but standards vary | Not applicable |
| Delays | Flight tracking and live re-routing around incidents | The driver may cancel or re-price | Strikes, engineering works and cancellations |
| Work & privacy | Quiet private cabin with Wi-Fi for confidential calls | Little privacy | Public carriage; patchy signal |
| On this route | Direct and door to door with one professional chauffeur | Rank cabs at Stansted are not always familiar with Cambridge's bus gates, campus entrances and visitor barriers, which can turn a short ride into a frustrating last mile. | Direct trains run from the Stansted station to Cambridge, but Cambridge station lies south-east of the centre and Cambridge North is the stop for the Science Park, so most journeys still end with a taxi or bus — and disruption from engineering works or strikes can leave you at the mercy of replacement buses. |

Questions Before You Book
What happens if my flight into Stansted is delayed?
Your chauffeur tracks your flight in real time and adjusts the pickup to your actual landing, so a delay costs you nothing. 60 minutes of free waiting is included from the actual landing time, giving you time to clear passport control and baggage reclaim. If the delay is significant we simply re-plan the Cambridge end, letting your host know your revised arrival if you wish.
Where will my chauffeur meet me at Stansted?
Stansted has a single terminal, and your chauffeur waits in the arrivals hall holding a name board. You will receive their name and mobile number before you land. Once you have your bags, they walk you to the car, which is parked in the official short-stay area; those parking and set-down charges are already included in your fixed quote.
Can you take me straight to the Science Park or the Biomedical Campus?
Yes. Most of our Cambridge work goes directly to campuses rather than the city centre. For the Science Park and St John's Innovation Centre we use the A14 side of the city; for the Biomedical Campus and Addenbrooke's we leave the M11 at Junction 11. Give us the building name and we will drop you at the correct reception or visitor entrance.
Can one booking cover several meetings in Cambridge?
Yes. Many clients book Stansted to a first meeting, on to a second campus such as Granta Park or Hinxton, then back to the airport. We quote this as one fixed itinerary. A free waiting allowance applies at each non-airport pickup, and longer waits between meetings can be built into the quote in advance.
I have an early flight from Stansted. How early should I leave Cambridge?
For a European flight we suggest leaving central Cambridge about two and a half hours before departure; the drive itself is usually under 45 minutes at that hour, leaving comfortable time for security. Pre-dawn pickups are routine for us. Every fare is fixed before you book: early-morning and late-night journeys have no meter, and any peak-time or holiday surcharge is shown on the booking page before you pay. Your chauffeur arrives early and messages you when outside.
How much luggage can I bring?
The E-Class and S-Class each take up to 3 passengers with 2 large cases plus cabin bags. If you are travelling with more, such as a family at the start of term or a team carrying equipment cases, the V-Class takes up to 7 passengers and 6–7 large cases. Tell us about anything unusual, like a bike box or poster tubes, when booking.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before your pickup. If your plans change because of a cancelled flight or a rescheduled meeting, call us on 020 8888 9988 as soon as you can and we will do our best to move the booking to a new date or time rather than lose it.
Can you collect from Cambridge colleges given the city-centre restrictions?
Yes, though some college entrances lie behind bus gates or rising bollards that private cars cannot pass. In those cases we agree the nearest legal and convenient meeting point in advance, often a street around the corner, and your chauffeur helps carry luggage from the porters' lodge. We will confirm the exact spot when you book.
