Southampton Central station to cruise terminal
Trains from London Waterloo reach Southampton Central in about 80 minutes, and the docks are only a mile or two beyond it. The awkward part is the last stretch: the station taxi rank thins out when a train full of cruise passengers arrives at once, and the terminals are too far to walk with cases. Book us and a driver is on the concourse for your train, with the fare fixed per car and the luggage loaded for you.

Station to each terminal
Southampton Central to the Western Docks terminals (City, Horizon and Mayflower) is around 5 minutes; to Ocean and QEII in the Eastern Docks around 10. We check which berth your ship is on that day and take you to the right check-in doors, where porters take luggage at the kerb.
Timing the train
Most lines open check-in around midday and close it 60 to 90 minutes before sailing. A train arriving between 11:30 and 13:30 lands you at the terminal in the calm part of the afternoon; the 15:00 to 16:00 arrivals coincide with the last-minute rush. Tell us the train you have booked and we set the pick-up from it; if it is running late, message us and we will move the pick-up where we can.
After the cruise
For the return we collect from the terminal set-down at your disembarkation slot and drop you at the station entrance in good time for your train; if you would rather not carry cases up the platform stairs, say so and the driver will help to the lift.
Meeting winter trains at Southampton Central
The direct trains from Waterloo reach Southampton Central in around 80 minutes, and in summer that last short hop to the ship is easy enough. Winter is different. Engineering works tend to cluster around Christmas and New Year, which can mean replacement buses for part of the journey and an arrival time that bears no resemblance to the one you planned. The rank outside Central also thins out on dark, cold mornings and late evenings. A pre-booked car means somebody is there when you come out, whatever train or bus finally gets you in.
City Terminal at Berth 101 is the closest to the station, but Ocean and QEII sit in the Eastern Docks through Dock Gate 4 and Mayflower is out at Dock Gate 20, too far to walk with winter cases. On the way home the problem reverses: a ship held up by storms can arrive after the train you booked, and you end up rebooking on the platform. We track the ship's arrival and get you to Central in time for a train that still works.
- Driver waits for the train or replacement bus you actually arrive on, not the one on the timetable.
- No queuing at a thin rank in the cold with heavy cases.
- Ship arrivals tracked on the way back, so the drop at Central fits the real docking time.
- If festive engineering works make the train hopeless, we can drive the whole way instead.
When winter engineering works close the line to Waterloo, our Southampton to London chauffeur route covers the full journey door to door.
Questions
Can you meet a train at Southampton Central for a December or festive sailing?
Yes. We meet trains at Central throughout the winter and over the festive period, when the bulk of the Christmas departures fall in the four days from Saturday 19 December. Give us the train you plan to catch and we will adjust if engineering works or a replacement bus change your arrival. The car takes you straight to your terminal and dock gate.
After a winter cruise, how do you know when to take us back to Central if the ship is late?
We follow the ship's actual arrival. The usual pattern is a ship alongside by about 06:00; heavy weather can make that later or move the berthing time. Your driver adjusts to when you really come off, then gets you to Southampton Central for a train that still makes sense, or talks through driving you all the way if the rail service is disrupted.
How long is Southampton Central to the cruise terminal?
About 5 minutes to City, Horizon and Mayflower terminals and about 10 minutes to Ocean and QEII, depending on traffic on the dock roads.
Can I just take a taxi from the rank?
You can, but when a Waterloo train arrives the rank often empties and you queue with your cases. A pre-booked driver waits on the concourse and the price is fixed.
What if my train is late?
Give us the train time and we set the pick-up from it. If your train is delayed, message us and we will move the pick-up where we can; 15 minutes of waiting is included from the booked time.
